This week’s Spotlight Hour focuses on the charming water bubble Pokémon, Dewpider. Trainers have a fantastic opportunity to catch this delightful creature in Pokémon Go!
The objective for this week’s Spotlight Hour is to capture as many Dewpiders as possible. Not only does this provide a chance to hunt for shiny variants of this PVP Pokémon, but there’s also the enticing double Stardust bonus for catches during the event.
Perfect IV Stats for Dewpider in Pokémon Go
The Spotlight Hour presents an excellent chance to find a Dewpider with perfect IV stats.
Dewpider
In Pokémon Go, the term ‘perfect’ encompasses two aspects. The first refers to the maximized version boasting 100% IV, represented by the ideal stats of 15/15/15, which is essential for your 4-star Pokédex, raids, and Master League battles. However, due to how Combat Power (CP) is calculated using three attributes, a perfect IV Pokémon only reaches its full potential in the Master League setting.
While Trainers cannot see a Pokémon’s IV until they catch it, conducting a bit of prior research can help identify perfect Dewpider candidates based solely on their CP.
For players at Level 30 and above, here are the CP benchmarks to spot a perfect 15/15/15 Dewpider:
- Level 30 (wild CP maximum): 612 CP
- Level 35 (weather-boosted wild CP maximum): 663 CP
The wild CP aligns with a Trainer’s level until reaching Level 30. Given that the majority of players have surpassed this milestone, these values have been provided for clarity. Keep in mind that these CP figures may vary for players below Level 30.
Assessing Araquanid’s Competence in PVP
Is Araquanid a viable choice in PVP battles? Surprisingly, yes! Dewpider and its evolution, Araquanid, hold the distinction of being the only Water/Bug-type Pokémon in the game. Unique typings often shine in competitive play.
Even though other Bug/Water-type Pokémon such as Surskit, Wimpod, and Golisopod exist, Dewpider’s unique attributes are still noteworthy.
Within the Go Battle League, Araquanid employs moves such as Bug Bite, Bug Buzz, and Bubble Beam. It used to serve as a solid counter against certain threats like Walrein, but as the meta shifts, it’s become less prominent. Nonetheless, Araquanid remains decent in the Great League, even though newer options like Golisopod have gained popularity.
Against opponents in the Great League, Araquanid can secure victories against Cresselia, Shadow Whiscash, Quagsire, Vigoroth, and Medicham, while it may struggle against Lickitung, Skarmory, Shadow Gligar, Annihilape, and Azumarill.
Looking towards the Ultra League, the returns diminish significantly. A perfect CP maxes out at 2065 for a Dewpider, making it less effective compared to other bulky options seen in the Great League. Success might still be possible against Greninja, Umbreon, Cresselia, Walrein, and Swampert, but defeats can be anticipated against Talonflame, Giratina (Altered), Poliwrath, Virizion, and Steelix.
In the Master League, Dewpider is generally outmatched.
Shiny Dewpider: The New Addition
Yes, shiny Dewpider is indeed available in Pokémon Go! It made its debut in August 2023 at the beginning of Go Fest 2023, alongside the Petilil family.
Dewpider Evolution Line
It’s important to note that this Spotlight Hour is not a Community Day, meaning shiny rates are not amplified. Although Trainers may encounter a shiny Dewpider during the event, the likelihood remains relatively low.
The Aesthetic of Shiny Dewpider
Shiny Dewpider presents a captivating visual transformation. Its bright lime green skin is replaced by a stunning deep purple, while its blue eyes and accents turn into a vibrant shade of red. The same applies to its evolution, Araquanid. While the water bubbles remain unchanged, they add to the charm of these shinies!
Why You Should Catch as Many Pokémon as Possible This Week
Beyond the quest for the perfect Dewpider, several reasons exist for participating in this week’s Spotlight Hour:
- The foremost motivation is the double catch Stardust bonus, which runs throughout the hour. You can earn 200 Stardust per catch instead of the usual 100!
- If the weather in Pokémon Go is rainy, an additional 50 Stardust will be added, stacking with the double bonus.
- Utilizing a Star Piece can amplify this process to yield a 1.5x increase in Stardust gains.
- Catching Dewpider contributes to your catch bonus medals due to its Water/Bug typing.
Remember that Spotlight Hour events last for one hour, from 6 PM to 7 PM (local time). Be sure to check back next week for insights on Wobbuffet, as it makes its entrance into the spotlight!
Happy hunting for your perfect Dewpider!
