Spotlight on Magnemite: Catch the Perfect Pokémon This Week!

This week, trainers worldwide have the opportunity to focus on the Magnet Pokémon, Magnemite, during the highly anticipated Spotlight Hour in Pokémon Go. This event presents a prime occasion for players to potentially add an exceptional Magnemite to their collections.

Interestingly, this month’s Spotlight Hour mirrors last month’s finale by featuring a Pokémon that evolves when three of them are merged into one. Many are hopeful that this trend continues, anticipating the arrival of Klink or the recently introduced rare spawn, Wiglett, in the future.

If you find yourself with an abundance of Magnemite—more than any trainer might usually require—you may wish to capitalize on another enticing aspect of this Spotlight Hour: the double evolution XP bonus. This bonus allows players to accumulate experience points by using a Lucky Egg, turning your attention from catching Pokémon to maximizing XP gains.

Perfect IV Stats for Magnemite in Pokémon Go

This week presents an excellent chance to capture a Magnemite with ideal IV stats.

“Perfect” can mean two different things in the context of Pokémon Go, depending on your intended use for the Pokémon. The most sought-after variant is the perfect 100% IV, which has the stats of 15/15/15, making it a top choice for the 4-star Pokédex, raids, and the Master League. However, it’s important to note that a Pokémon’s Combat Power (CP) determines its effectiveness in battles and competitions.

Though players cannot assess a Pokémon’s IV without first catching it, they can identify a potential perfect Magnemite by observing its CP. For trainers at Level 30 or higher, the ideal CPs for a perfect 15/15/15 Magnemite are:

  • Level 30 (wild CP max): 1167 CP
  • Level 35 (weather-boosted wild CP max): 1265 CP

Keep in mind that these values align with your Trainer Level up to Level 30. Most players now exceed this level, but lower trainers will see different values.

Max Out Season Announced!

Currently, players can now encounter Dynamax Pokémon through Max Battles. To participate, trainers must first visit Power Spots to gather Max Particles and complete the “To the Max!” quest. Additionally, don’t overlook exploring Routes, engaging in Gift Exchange, and enjoying Party Play while hunting for rare Pokémon or participating in the Go Battle League and PokéStop Showcases.

Evaluating Magnezone’s Performance in PvP

When it comes to PvP, Magnezone doesn’t disappoint, though its effectiveness varies between its regular and Shadow forms, as well as depending on your proficiency with its combat style. While it isn’t considered top-tier, it can be a valuable asset in matches if utilized correctly.

For the best results, aim to equip Magnezone with Volt Switch (Fast), Wild Charge (Charged), and Mirror Shot (Charged). This combination provides both fast move and shield pressure, but be aware that Magnezone can be challenging to master due to its slow animations and self-debuffing abilities. Using Mirror Shot to bait shields can reduce damage taken from Wild Charge by lowering your opponent’s attack.

Essentially, Magnezone operates as a glass cannon within the Go Battle League.

  • In the Great League, regular Magnezone performs admirably against opponents like Skarmory, Azumarill, Vigoroth, Lanturn, and Lickitung, while it struggles against Shadow Whiscash, Annihilape, Shadow Gligar, Talonflame, and Charjabug.

  • In the Ultra League, Shadow Magnezone shines against opponents like Jellicent, Golisopod, Charizard, Tapu Fini, and Poliwrath, but faces challenges against Virizion, Steelix, Giratina Altered, Talonflame, and Cresselia.

  • For the Master League, Shadow Magnezone holds its own against formidable opponents like Lugia, Togekiss, Dragonite, Kyogre, and Mewtwo, while losing to Excadrill, Therian Landorus, Giratina Origin, Ho-Oh, and Dialga.

Discovering Shiny Magnemite in Pokémon Go

Indeed, a shiny Magnemite is available in Pokémon Go, boasting a striking golden hue!

The shiny version of Magnemite was first introduced in November 2018 as part of the Let’s Go celebration. If you manage to catch a shiny, you can evolve it into a shiny Magnezone, although doing so requires 125 Magnemite Candy and a Magnetic Lure Module—25 Candy for Magneton and an additional 100 Candy and the Lure for Magnezone.

While the potential for finding a shiny Magnemite in the wild is there, it’s essential to remember that this is not a Community Day event, meaning shiny rates are not enhanced, significantly reducing your chances of capturing one, especially if you’re looking for a perfect variant. Yet, since every encountered Magnemite can be shiny, players are encouraged to catch every one they see to increase their odds.

Visual Differences in Shiny Magnemite and its Evolutions

As shown below, shiny Magnemite features a golden appearance, with its magnet tips transition to black. This color scheme continues through its evolution into Magneton, where its magnets also darken, culminating in a consistent theme throughout its evolutionary line.

In contrast, shiny Magnezone undergoes a less impressive transformation, as only the middle eye color changes from red to blue, which many players find rather underwhelming.

Additional Tips for This Week’s Spotlight Hour

In addition to the thrill of catching a shiny Magnemite, there are notable perks to participating in this week’s Spotlight Hour:

  • The standout benefit is undoubtedly the double evolution XP bonus, allowing for rapid XP accrual and opportunities for leveling up your Trainer status. Establishing two Pokémon storage tags for this hour can help streamline your efforts: one for Pokémon you aim to evolve and retain, and another for those you plan to evolve and transfer, ideally containing Pokémon requiring 12 Candy.

  • For newcomers, this Spotlight Hour is an opportune moment to amass enough Magnemite Candy to fully evolve this Pokémon and add Magneton and Magnezone to your Pokédex.

  • Capturing Magnemite, an Electric/Steel-type Pokémon, will also contribute to your medal collection progress.

Mark your calendars—Spotlight Hour lasts for one hour, from 6 PM to 7 PM local time. Be sure to return next week for insight on the following featured Pokémon.

Happy hunting for that perfect Magnemite!
